Christmas Week Anecdotes

I was in a taxi cab with a taxi driver and he spoke very good English, so I asked him about it. He said he only used it to talk to "Farang. Farang England. Farang Switzerland. Farang American. Farang Italy." I asked him why didn't he use the word for person instead of Farang. He laughed and repeated, "No, no, no, Farang England. Farang America. Farang Italy." When I explained to him that the word "Farang" hurt me, he got quiet. It would be the similar to me calling him Asian. or Oriental. It's infinitesmally more polite to say, "Person America or Person England." I don't know why.

Today I got a mug and a shirt for Christmas from my office. I was very touched. Christmas presents under the office tree and everything.
